Charity Clowns...I was reading the paper just now, and I saw an article written by one of the columnist calling for better programs on TV. Hell, looks like it's not only my personal opinion that TV programs are getting as bad as a maggot-infested corpse.
Anyway, I walked outta my room just now and happened to see this Ren Ci charity show being aired on TV. It shows 2 Mediacorp artistes walking on 2 wires suspended on what seemed like high ground. That reminds me of what I saw on the papers a few days ago.
Jacelyn Tay, one of the most beautiful artistes I can think of in Mediacorp, injured herself while rehearsing for some stupid stunt dance she's was scheduled to perform tonight. In a spate of anger, she criticised the producers for making artistes do difficult stunts. I have to agree. All those stunts are difficult and stupid. Why do they have to risk their lives for charity? Don't the producers see that a fall from the high ground or any accident occurring may render the invloved artiste(s) paralysed or even cause death?
An artiste decides to barbecue his bike.
They can sing, dance or act, so why risk it? I bet there are more professional people who have had more training time than the short training period the artistes received, and can thus perform the stunts better. The audience can also enjoy better performances this way. Why would you want artistes to present mediocre items? Just because they can attract more donors? Then let them do what they do best so that they can attract even more donors instead of making them do unfamiliar things to get so little money.
That's Sharon Au trying to fit into a box. Acheivement? Or stupidity?
Remember how the foreign artistes just come to Singapore and sing a song or two, or just perform a short dance, and they can attract locals to donate so much more than our local artistes pulling stupid tricks?
"Haha! We don't have to do stupid stunts!"
"And we raised more donations than them!"
You see, there are more ways to get Singaporeans to donate. I bet those who have the heart will donate even without the artistes doing death-defying stunts. Like Jacelyn Tay put it, we don't have to turn the studio into a circus.
"This ain't no Cirque de Soleil!"
End...
