The Problem With Having Your Birthday on New Year's Day...

I should have written this way before my birthday, but I was plain lazy. It's a week after my birthday already, but I decided to write it anyway.

What's the problem I will be addressing here? It's the problem of having your birthday on the 1st day of each year.

What's the problem then? You see, it's hard to organise a proper birthday celebration on New Year's Day. People are either busy celebrating or going out with loved ones. No one will really give a fuck about your birthday, except single people. Even single people might wanna try their luck getting laid at countdown parties, so that leaves you and your dog at home.

Then there's this guilt that you might be preventing people from going to countdown parties because they spend the day/night with you. I don't like that. I don't like to do things that will bother other people.

Why don't I go to countdown parties then? Well, I hate crowded places. And how the heck do you celebrate a birthday in a sea of people? Rubbing asses and sweating it out with strangers is not exactly an ideal way to celebrate your birthday, or the new year.

Thus, I conclude that having your birthday on the 1st of January is not as good a thing as what people always perceive. Indeed, you are assured of a holiday on your birthday, but you will usually end up sleeping at home if you do not have very close friends willing to spend that day with you. The most you get is an SMS wishing you happy birthday and happy new year.

That, my friends, is the problem.
