Charity Shows...
I remember writing an entry about those charity shows on TV a few years back, but I simply have to write something about it again.
I was at Angela's place watching some charity program with her mother and sister the other day when I see this old Malaysian man using his body to drag some van. The man's in his 70s (I think) but still managed to drag the van 4 metres. That is rather impressive on it's own, but I find it stupid to use such an act to get people to donate money. Anyway, that is not the main thing I wanna talk about.
I want to talk about the money that people donate. I remember a time when calling a certain hotline will have me donate $2 to a certain organisation. I bet some of you remember that don't you? Then, a few years down the road, a single call donates $5. That's the minimum and we don't have any choices to donate anything less. The program I saw the other day has a hotline for a $6 donation. $6 is the lowest denomination. Can anyone explain to me why the minimum amount is going higher and higher as the year goes by?
This trend deters people from donating money. For most people, it's easier to part with $2 than with $6. That is why the total amount of money received by the organisations for each show is getting smaller. Wanting to get more donations, the organisations push the minimum donation amount up and produce more atrocious and stupid acts. It's a vicious cycle. Something has to be done if the needy are to be helped. Enough said.

I Don't Recognise My Country Anymore...
I have been out with Angela a few times the past week and we noticed many, I mean MANY, foreigners. Is it me or is there more and more foreigners in my country? There are hundreds of Chinese (from China) in my school, thousands of Bangladeshi on the trains on Sundays and so many Filipinos all over town.
There are really many foreigners in Singapore. There didn't seem to be so many of them a few years back. Now, they are all over. I hear all kinds of different accents everywhere, see all kinds of colors everywhere. I hate their accents. I can't take it. When I board a school shuttle, all I hear is the accent of Mainland Chinese speaking Mandarin, or worse, speaking English. The accent of Indians and Blangadeshi speaking English also gets on my nerves.
I don't recognise my country anymore. What is going on?
I have my own theories of why there's this sudden surge, but let's not get into it. I don't wanna crack some racist jokes and get charged by the government. Haha.

Busy & Lazy...
I haven't written anything in over a month. I have been busy and lazy. So many projects and work to do.
Actually, I'm in a lecture now. Yes, I'm not listening. Well, most of the people here aren't anyway. What's the point of coming? I have no idea.
This lecturer is so boring. He's always telling life stories and the stuff he teaches are just read directly off the powerpoint slides that I already have. And this lecture is 3 hours long. Whoever came up with this schedule is not thinking straight. We all know that concentration wanes after a while so a 3-hour lecture is not logical. I find it a waste of time, but oh well, it's my obligation as an undergraduate here.
Well, well, back to the lecture. Or maybe not.
